A Moment in Time

Photography & Restoration

FACTS ABOUT RESTORATION:

1.         Your original photograph will not be altered or damaged in any way.  The finished product will be printed on photographic paper using special inks expected to last at least 75 years.  Upon completion of the work, you will receive your original photograph plus the restoration print.

2.         The file used to store the restoration data is kept for only 14 days!  Unless special arrangements are made, the data will then be erased and the diskette overwritten with another file.  Should you desire additional prints after 14 days, I will have to start from scratch and you would have to pay for a complete new restoration.

3.         Problems that can be fixed:

            Red or crossed eyes.

Closed eyes (provided similar photo with eyes open brought in  for duplication).

Dust, dirt, scratches, stains, mildew and creases.

Simple tears (both sides of photo available to put back together).

Fading, darkening (turning brown) or other discoloration (if not severe).

            White, black or brown spots.

Blemishes, acne, moles, scars or other marks.

Removal of unwanted object (telephone pole growing out of someone’s head).

Separating 1 or more persons from a group photo.

            Glare on glasses.

Complex tears (2 tears crossing an area, a tear where a small portion of photo is missing).

Replacement of undesirable background from stock.

4.         Problems that cannot be fixed:

            Out of focus.

            Motion blur.

Severe fading (not enough image visible for enhancement).

Severe tears (large area of image missing).

FEES:

1.         Material cost for each print is $10.00 B&W or $15.00 color up to 8 x 10. This does NOT include my professional fee for the restoration.

2.         My work is billed at $25.00 per hour in addition to the cost of the print. $15.00 is the minimum charge for scanning any photograph.

3.         An estimate will be given at the time your photo is evaluated.  However, some problems may not become apparent until the work is begun.  Should this require additional time of more than 15 minutes ($6.25 extra), you will be            notified and may choose not to have me complete the restoration.

4.         Additional prints  - The restoration file will be kept on a special diskette for 14 days after completion of the work.  The file will then be deleted.   If you desire additional prints, you need to notify me before the 14 days are up! Reprints are made at the same cost noted in #1 above.

5.         Archival storage - If you foresee that additional prints will be wanted later (for example, a photo of your great-grandparents may be wanted by other family members when seen at a reunion), you may want to have the restoration saved.  A special photo data diskette may be purchased for $12.00.  This will hold only 3-5 photos (more B&W than color).  I will keep the diskette on file for you indefinitely and you may order additional prints at any time.  (Note that my computer program places an encryption code onto the diskette at the time the restoration file is saved.  so it cannot be opened by any computer but mine. That is why I keep the disk.)

                                                            **** NOTE ****

REPRINTING OF THE RESTORED PHOTOGRAPH CAN ONLY BE DONE BY ME.

Because I mark all my photos with a copyright imprint, you cannot take it to Wal-Mart or H.E.B. and use their Kodak PictureMaker to do reprints.  The copyright mark will be read by the machine and the photo it would produce would be distorted.  This protects my work from alteration or duplication.  (Note that using the PictureMaker costs about $6.00 per 8 x 10 print so you don't save much money and the quality would be awful.)

            * With the exception of the school background mentioned in #2, once a stock background is used, it is retired and     will not be used for anyone else's composite.

Please feel free to call me at 365-8971 (M-W-F-S 10-5:30) or email me at amomentintime@email.com with any questions about restorations.
